# Identifying Stakeholders and Participants

Exercise group: Developing Solutions with Collective Intelligence · Optional exercise

## About this worksheet

You will need to define whom you want to participate in your project, considering what input they can provide to help you better define or solve the problem.

## Tips

Refer back to exercise 2 in chapter 5, where we laid out in much more detail the types of participants you may want to ask, keeping in mind that academic experts, government colleagues, local residents, and global citizens may all have something to offer.

## Questions

1. Do you need to access domain experts with detailed knowledge of a specific field?
2. Or do you need to get a better insight into the problem by getting input from people with the lived experience of it?
3. Do you need to engage stakeholders in other agencies or in the wider public who may have important information?
4. And are there eligibility criteria such as age or location or other qualifications that will help you to target the people you most need to hear from?
5. Do not forget that you can use open innovation with your own colleagues across agencies as well as with local residents and global citizens. The sky’s the limit!
